Guru Poornima: A day to celebrate our teachers and guides
गुरु पौर्णिमा: आपल्या शिक्षक आणि मार्गदर्शकांना साजरी करण्याचा दिवस
Guru Purnima, also known as Vyasa Purnima, is a Hindu festival dedicated to honoring gurus, or spiritual teachers. It is celebrated on the full moon day of the month of Ashadha, which usually falls in July.
The word "guru" comes from the Sanskrit words "gu", meaning "darkness", and "ru", meaning "to dispel". A guru is therefore someone who dispels the darkness of ignorance and leads us to enlightenment.
Guru Purnima is a time to express gratitude to our gurus for their guidance and teachings. It is also a time to renew our commitment to following their path.
In Hinduism, there are many different types of gurus, including:
- Spiritual gurus: These gurus are experts in the spiritual sciences, such as yoga, meditation, and Vedanta. They can help us to understand our true nature and to achieve liberation from suffering.
- Academic gurus:- These gurus are experts in a particular field of knowledge, such as science, math, or literature. They can help us to learn and grow in our chosen field.
- Personal gurus:- These gurus are not necessarily experts in any particular field, but they have a special connection with us and can provide us with guidance and support.
No matter what type of guru we have, Guru Purnima is a time to celebrate their presence in our lives and to express our gratitude for their teachings.
There are many different ways to celebrate Guru Purnima. Some people visit their gurus and offer them gifts and prayers. Others gather with their fellow students and teachers to hold a puja, or ceremony, in honor of their gurus. Still others simply spend some time reflecting on the importance of their gurus in their lives.
No matter how you choose to celebrate Guru Purnima, it is a time to remember the importance of gratitude and to express our appreciation for the people who have helped us to grow and learn.
Here are some of the activities that people do on Guru Purnima:
